Unlike other beers produced by infusion, Czech beer is made by decoction - a traditional method that develops a more aromatic flavour and a deeper, “fuller” colour in the beer. This technique makes sure that, if served directly from the keg, the beer keeps all its characteristics. Traditional Czech beer means high quality. Whether you’re enjoying a beer manufactured with the traditional Czech method, like the Original Pils, or savouring the Special beer, produced with blossoming hop, Malastrana – with five different recipes – offers products that hold a centuries-old brewing knowledge that has evolved in the unique atmospheres of an extraordinary land: Bohemia.
Malastrana beer’s quality can be recognized from a smile on which settles a moustache of foam. All this is possible thanks to an old tradition and to the master brewers’ ability in using ingredients of the highest quality, like Moravian malt and Žatec (Saaz) hop. The light carbonation to which the Malastrana beer undergoes, makes it an irresistible pleasure: its mild bubbles grant a pleasant lightness. It’s impossible to stop at the first glass!
Malastrana Czech beer: simple ingredients, great quality.
The traditional Czech beer is based on four ingredients: water, malt, hop and yeasts. Ingredients that carry essences and scents all the way from Bohemia and Moravia.
We have decided to follow tradition to give you only the best the Bohemian region has to offer. After all, when ingredients are so simple, their quality must be the best possible. Just like our beer.
What gives our beer its characteristic golden color and full taste is malt, with its aroma of resin and under wood. Malastrana beer is manufactured with “Bojos” malt, produced in Czech Republic. Its high quality is what makes this beer so unique.
Water makes up 90% of Malastrana beer – that is why its origin is fundamental. Our water comes from artesian wells and the most pure springs and lakes in the south of Czech Republic. Uncontaminated water that invites to drink it as it flows, but that we prefer in the “more aromatic” version.
Malastrana gets its characteristic bitter taste from the selected Žatec hop, better known all over the world as Saaz hop – a breed typical of the Czech Republic. When it’s added to the must, hop releases Alpha acids that give the beer its characteristic hint of bitterness. As a matter of fact, hop is used in the manufacturing process both for its embittering capacity and its robust aroma that makes it a perfect ingredient for our pils. With its antibacterial properties that extend the product’s life span, hop also acts as a natural preservative and, by coagulating suspended proteins, it makes the beer clearer and more foamy.
During production, yeast gets its nourishment from simple sugars (that are fermentable). Beer manufacturing consist of three stages: aeration, fermentation, that determines the final taste of the product and its alcoholic content, and, once that all sugars have been consumed, the settling stage.
